We are building a variety of offerings in ceramics with group sessions for wheel-throwing, hand-building and topical workshops. These will be geared towards a myriad of levels and experiences. Instruction in other media is also coming soon. Please continue to follow as we grow!

* We offer assistance and scholarships to people who either: reside in the Union Heights/Windsor Place neighborhood, are P.O.C. or are working artists who find it difficult to attend classes due to financial constraints. Do you want to try wheel-throwing?
Here is a chance to get your hands dirty and see what it’s about. These monthly held sessions will serve as an introduction to those interested in learning to throw as well as people who might want to continue their skills without the commitment of a full class session. Bring a friend or a date and we’ll make it a fun way to spend an evening.
Instructors Joanna Merry and Karen Casteel rotate several Fridays each month.
All levels welcome. Price is $75/student which includes clay and firing. Maximum 8.

PROJECT-BASED HAND-BUILDING

Tuesday, EVENINGS February 17 - March 17 5:35 - 8:15 pm
Project-Based Ceramics Studio. Advance your ideas. Refine your skills. Bring a vision to life. Are you ready to take your ceramics practice to the next level?
At the start of the session, you'll share your project ideas—whether it's a sculptural form, a functional set, or something experimental. Together, we’ll discuss the concept, assess feasibility, and plan the best approach in terms of techniques (pinch, coil, slab, etc.) and construction strategy.
Each week, you’ll work on your personal project at your own pace while I offer individual support, demos, and technical advice tailored to your piece.
Examples of Possible Projects: A tall sculptural vase, A set of three nesting platters, A windchime, A wall piece with texture and carving, a piece of jewelry, A sculptural abstract piece etc..
Basic Skills Encouraged. Tuition $350 per student. Includes clay, kiln firing.(8 MAXIMUM).

MIXED LEVELS OIL PAINTING
W/ BETH NORTHCUT WILLIAMS
MONDAY, EVENINGS, February 23-March 30 6pm - 8:30pm
This six-week class is designed for students with any level of painting experience. Beth provides a nurturing environment for sharing material techniques and design principles. Students will practice painting from life as well as using their own photos for source material.
No experience required. Supply list provided. Students should provide their own materials, however, Beth can provide a small selection of paint colors and brushes for students with limited supplies.

MIXED LEVEL WHEEL-THROWING

Monday, MORNINGS, March 2 - April 6

Students will learn and continue developing wheel-throwing skills through teacher lead demos and individual guidance. Basic forms and independent studies will be explored while further pursuing better craft in application. Surface techniques in glazing will finish the session. Those with wheel-throwing experience are welcome(completion of six week beginner class).
Some experience required. Tuition $350 per student. Includes clay, kiln firing. 8 MAXIMUM.

BEGINNING WHEEL-THROWING

Wednesday, EVENINGS, March 4- April 8 6pm - 8:30pm
Join instructor Jo Merry as she lead a introductory class at the wheel. Students will develop wheel-throwing skills through teacher lead demos and individual guidance. This class will cover centering, pulling walls and developing forms of cylinders, cups and bowls in functional pottery. Surface techniques in glazing will finish the session. While it is geared towards beginning levels, those with some clay experience are also welcome.
No experience required. THOSE WITH EXPERIENCE: JOINING MIXED LEVELS IS ENCOURAGED.

Find your Line: Creating a Cohesive Body of Work
Are you ready to have more consistency in your pots? This six-week class is designed for students with wheel-throwing experience. Susan will guide students through a design process using inspiration from images, writings and ceramic history to find the unique voice in their work. Examples of this can be a place setting of relating forms, a family of vases in multiple sizes that share similar curves, a series of mugs with compatible surface design. We will start with cultivating consistency in singular pieces and then build forward with our projects.
